How it works
breakdown
When your agent uses it
Break an epic or a design document into owned, sequenced tasks: one deliverable each, an owner, a dependency order, the parallel lanes that avoid two people editing the same file, and a definition of done per task. Use before a sprint starts, when work has to be shared across several developers, or when a piece of work needs owners and parallel lanes. Work that stays with one person is planned with `atk:plan` instead, however many days it takes. Triggers on: "break down", "breakdown", "chia task", "phân chia công việc", "split this epic", "task list", "WBS", "タスク分解", "who does what", "assign tasks", "/atk:breakdown".

# Task Breakdown (`atk:breakdown`)
Turns one large piece of work into tasks a team can run at the same time without colliding. The
value is in the dependency order and the file ownership, not in the list itself.
## Scope
Handles: decomposing an epic or design into tasks, assigning an owner to each, ordering by
dependency, grouping into parallel lanes with explicit file ownership, and writing a per-task
definition of done.
Does NOT handle: sizing (`atk:estimate`), designing the solution (`atk:design-doc`), or
implementation. It divides work between people; how one person's share is then carried out, in
phases and steps, is `atk:plan`, which the assignee writes for themselves afterwards. Work thatView the complete source on GitHubcatchup
When your agent uses it
Summarise an epic or a pull request for someone not in the conversation that produced it: what the work is and for whom, why now, scope, what it touches and where in the code, who decides, unfamiliar terms, and where it is easy to go wrong. For an epic, also the understanding check the developer answers before coding. Use when a person joins work in flight, picks up an epic they did not write, or reviews a pull request in an unfamiliar area; what merged work now does is `atk:spec`. Also explains in plain words, finding by finding or section by section, a document a person was handed, a record the kit wrote or any other, such as a vendor's penetration test report; turning one into requirements is `atk:intake`. Triggers on: "catchup", "summarize issue", "summarize PR", "explain this document", "explain these findings simply", "tóm tắt issue", "tóm tắt PR", "giải thích epic", "hiểu epic này", "giải thích tài liệu này dễ hiểu", "giải thích finding dễ hiểu", "キャッチアップ", "ブリーフ", "この資料をわかりやすく説明して", "/atk:catchup".

# Catch Up on an Epic or a Pull Request (`atk:catchup`)
Turns an epic or a pull request into a page that gets a newcomer to the work in a few minutes, and,
for an epic, into a set of questions the person who will write the code answers themselves before
they start.
A document a person was handed, a local file, pasted text, or a link to one, becomes a page that
explains it in plain words, finding by finding or section by section: document mode.
The brief is disposable. It is written to be read once and to have its open questions pasted back to
whoever can answer them. It is not a second place of record, so it links to the requirement and the
design rather than restating either.
## ScopeView the complete source on GitHubconvention
When your agent uses it
Extract, record, and enforce the coding conventions a team actually follows: branch and commit rules, naming, layering, error handling, test layout, review etiquette, and the tooling that enforces each rule. Also drafts the collaboration files the project lacks, `CONTRIBUTING.md`, the pull request template, and `CODEOWNERS`, writing only the ones the team picks. Use when a team has no written convention, when the written one no longer matches the code, or when reviews keep repeating the same comment. Triggers on: "convention", "coding standard", "quy ước code", "coding rule", "style guide", "branch strategy", "commit convention", "コーディング規約", "our team rules", "CONTRIBUTING.md", "CODEOWNERS", "contribution guide", "set up a pull request template", "tạo CONTRIBUTING", "file CODEOWNERS", "mẫu pull request cho dự án", "コントリビューションガイド", "プルリクエストのテンプレートを作成", "standards per language", "coding standard for each technology", "viết standard cho từng ngôn ngữ", "言語ごとのコーディング規約", "/atk:convention".

# Team Conventions (`atk:convention`)
Writes down the rules a team already follows and enforces. It can also suggest rules from published
standards, and each one stays a proposal until the Tech Lead adopts it; nothing is imported on the
team's behalf. A rule that no tool enforces and no reviewer checks is a wish; this skill labels it as
one.
## Scope
Handles: deriving conventions from the existing codebase and git history, recording them, mapping
each rule to the tool that enforces it, auditing whether the code still matches the document, suggesting rules from
the published standards for the detected stack as proposals, and offering to draft the collaboration files the project does not have yet.
Does NOT handle: reviewing a specific change (`atk:review`), configuring CI pipelines beyond theView the complete source on GitHubdesign-doc
When your agent uses it
Write the technical design document a team reviews before coding, plus its ADR: current state, options with trade-offs, chosen approach, data and API changes, migration, rollback, risks, open questions, and who signs off. Use before code that touches a schema, a public contract, a shared module, or several services. `--spike` first investigates, time-boxed, a question the design cannot choose without; `--challenge` puts one agent per signing role on the draft; `--answer` records answers to its open questions. Triggers on: "design doc", "technical design", "tech design", "thiết kế kỹ thuật", "tài liệu thiết kế", "ADR", "architecture decision", "設計書", "detail design", "how should we build this", "technical spike", "spike this", "nghiên cứu kỹ thuật", "spike kỹ thuật", "技術調査", "スパイク", "pressure-test this design", "phản biện thiết kế", "設計の懸念を洗い出して", "finish the draft design", "viết tiếp thiết kế nháp", "設計書の下書きの続き", "record the design answers", "ghi câu trả lời vào thiết kế", "設計の回答を反映", "/atk:design-doc".

# Technical Design Document (`atk:design-doc`)
Produces the document a Tech Lead and peers can review without a meeting, and the ADR that survives
the people who wrote it. The point is the comparison: a design with only one option is a plan, not a
design, and gets reviewed as such.
## Scope
Handles: describing the current implementation with citations, framing the problem, comparing viable
options against stated criteria, specifying the chosen data model, API contracts, and the migration
and rollout sequence the change requires, and writing the ADR entry. Under `--spike`, it also
investigates a question the comparison cannot be scored without, inside a time box somebody set,
and writes what was found instead of a design. Given a design at `DRAFT`, it finishes or revises it.
Under `--answer`, it records a person's answers to a design's open questions, and the edits reviewView the complete source on GitHubestimate

Estimate how many points and how many hours a task, a feature, or a screen takes: size each item with a stated basis, mark the confidence, and add the risk buffer as a visible line, so the numbers can be argued with in planning. Use for story points, hour or man-day estimates, and re-estimation after scope change. Triggers on: "estimate", "estimation", "story point", "man-day", "how long will this take", "ước lượng", "bao nhiêu point", "mất bao lâu", "見積", "工数", "何時間かかる", "/atk:estimate".

# Estimation (`atk:estimate`)
Produces an estimate whose numbers can be argued with, because every number carries the basis it
came from: a comparable past item, a decomposition, or a stated unknown. It answers how much each
item costs, in points and in hours; which items go into a sprint is the PM's call in sprint
planning, made from these numbers and the team's resources.
## Scope
Handles: sizing backlog items, recording the estimation basis and confidence, adding a risk buffer,
and flagging items too large or too vague to estimate.
Does NOT handle: writing the requirement (`atk:intake`), splitting work into tasks
(`atk:breakdown`), or the team's capacity and the sprint commitment, which the PM works out inView the complete source on GitHubfix

Fix a defect the way a team reviewer will accept: capture the failure verbatim, prove the cause before changing a line, check that the current behaviour is not a decision somebody made on purpose, make the smallest change that removes the cause, verify it by layer, stop after three ruled-out hypotheses with a named person rather than guessing, call the team review on its own change and fix what it blocks on, and write the report that shows what was checked and what was not. Use for a bug report, a failing test, a broken endpoint or screen, or an investigation that has to end in an explanation rather than a guess; with --findings, to go through an atk:review's findings with their author, answer each, and fix the chosen ones on the pull request's branch. # Fix a Defect (`atk:fix`)
Proves the cause, then fixes it. In that order, because a change made before the cause is proven is
a guess with a diff attached, and the review that catches it costs more than the investigation would
have.
The other half of the skill is where it stops, and it stops for two different reasons. When the
behaviour being called a bug turns out to be a decision somebody recorded, this skill does not fix
it; it brings the decision back to the person who owns it. And when three hypotheses have been ruled
out and none of them proved the cause, it hands the investigation over by name rather than carrying
on, because what is left at that point is usually somebody's knowledge rather than another search.

Also repairs a branch, through rebase, conflict resolution and fixup, and drives stacked pull requests. # Version Control (`atk:git`)
Carries finished work into the repository and no further. This skill is the one road to a commit in
`atk`: the skills that change code and the skills that write a document both hand off here, so a
team gets the same branch rule, the same secret scan, and the same consent line whichever one they
ran.
`shared/finalize-steps.md` is the contract and this skill is its implementation. Where the two
disagree, the contract wins and the disagreement is a defect here.

still available, and it is validated by the receiver reproducing something, not by the leaver
declaring it complete.

Answer which atk skill to run. With no argument it reads the state of the project, meaning the profile, the artifacts on disk and their approval state, the plans, and the branch, then names the next skill with the line to type, the evidence behind it, what the skill needs first, and who approves what it produces, plus what is waiting on which person. Given a question or a situation it routes it to one skill; given a skill name it explains that skill. Use when someone asks which skill fits, what to do next with the kit, or what a skill is for. It answers questions about the kit, not requests for work: "help me fix this bug" is `atk:fix`. # Which Skill to Run (`atk:help`)
Answers "which skill do I need?" for the project it runs in. A list of skills already exists in the
README and in the `/` menu; what neither of them knows is that this project's requirement is still
`IN REVIEW`, that the branch has three commits and no pull request, or that there is no profile yet.
This skill reads that state, then points at one skill and says why.
It answers in the session and writes nothing but its run trace, per rule 10 of
`shared/team-roles.md`. The answer is true at the moment it is given, for the
person who asked, and the next person asks again and gets the answer true for them.

Writes the code, between two gates. The first decides whether this work may be written at all
before somebody has agreed how: most work may, some work must not. The second is the team review,
called by this skill on its own output rather than left for the reviewer to discover.

# Carry Pieces of Work Through the Kit (`atk:orchestrate`)
Today a person carries every piece of work through the kit by hand, one skill and one piece at a
time: a raw request through `atk:intake`, an approved requirement through `atk:design-doc` or
`atk:plan`, a plan through `atk:implement`. This skill is the coordinator for one or several of them. It
reads where each piece stands, proposes the jobs each still needs, and once a person approves, runs
them side by side.
It coordinates and decides nothing a role owns. Every question a job's skill asks reaches the person
it is for, word for word; every artifact a job writes stops at the state its skill gives it and waits
for its approver; and code ends at a local commit. Push, pull request and merge stay with a person.

# Implementation Plan (`atk:plan`)
Answers one question: for this work, which files, in which order, checked how. It is the layer
between the design and the code, written by the person who will do the work, for that person and
their reviewer.
Work that needs several days and several reviewable pieces gets several phases, in one plan
directory. Nobody has to chop a piece of work into small tickets before they are allowed to plan it:
finding where the seams are is what this skill is for.
The plan is a draft and acting on it needs nobody's approval. Writing down the steps you intend to
take is drafting, not deciding, so rule 3 in `shared/team-roles.md` does not bite here. What needs
approval is an architectural choice, and choosing between architectures is `atk:design-doc`. When

change impact, listing test data and environment needs, defining the QA entry and exit criteria, and

Run a sprint retrospective on evidence rather than memory, and write the status report that goes up: what the data says about the sprint, what the team says, the few actions worth taking with an owner each, and whether last retro's actions actually happened. # Retrospective and Status Report (`atk:retro`)
Brings facts to a retrospective so the discussion is not a memory contest, and produces the report
a PM or client reads. Its strongest habit is checking the previous retro first: a team that never
closes its actions does not need another list of actions.
## Scope
Handles: gathering sprint evidence from git, the tracker, and CI, checking the previous retro's
actions, structuring the discussion, capturing what the team says, and writing both the retro record
and the status report.
Does NOT handle: running the meeting for the team, deciding priority for the next sprint, which
the PM does in sprint planning, or performance evaluation of individuals, which this skill never produces.View the complete source on GitHubreview

# Team Code Review (`atk:review`)
Reviews a change the way a responsible colleague does: it starts from what the change was supposed
to do, not from the diff. Findings that block a merge are separated from findings that are taste,
because mixing them is what makes reviews feel arbitrary.
## Scope
Handles: reading the diff in the context of the requirement, design, and conventions, deciding which
review rounds the change is worth and whether they run in agents of their own, finding correctness
and regression risks, checking test coverage of the changed behavior, and writing review comments
that a person can act on.

Execute approved test cases against a deployed DEV or staging environment through the browser: refuse production and the local stack, recon the accounts and data, triage every case as automatable, semi-automatable, manual, or blocked, naming the person who clears any obstacle the run cannot clear itself, agree the scope with the person before any case runs, run in at most three rounds, and write only the results it observed into a run record the QA lead approves and `atk:qa --bug` reads. Use when a cases file is approved, a non-production environment is deployed, and the team wants an agent to execute the automatable part instead of a tester clicking through it. # Run Test Cases on a Deployed Environment (`atk:run-cases`)
Takes the cases `atk:qa` wrote and runs the part of them an agent can run honestly, on a deployed
environment that is not production, through the browser. What comes back is a run record in the shape
`atk:qa` already defines: the results the agent observed and nothing else, a defect for each failure,
and evidence beside it, waiting for the QA lead.
The skill exists because most of a regression pass is mechanical and some of it is not. It decides
which is which before touching anything, says so, and lets the person who started the run choose
what this session covers. A case it cannot observe is never given a result, and a case that would
change data somebody else is using is never automated at all.

When your agent uses it
Review the security of a change, a release, or a feature the way a team has to answer for it: the assets and trust boundaries in scope, the project's own scanners run, threats walked per boundary, every finding verified against the code with the path from entry point to impact, a checklist from the client or the company answered item by item with evidence, and the residual risk left for a named person to accept. Also keeps the threat model of a feature current. Use before a release that touches authentication, personal data, payments, or an external integration, when a client asks for a security checklist, or when a design needs its threats written down before anyone builds it. Triggers on: "security review", "security audit", "security checklist", "threat model", "STRIDE", "OWASP", "kiểm tra bảo mật", "đánh giá bảo mật", "checklist bảo mật", "mô hình mối đe dọa", "セキュリティレビュー", "セキュリティチェックリスト", "脅威モデル", "脆弱性診断", "is this secure enough to ship", "/atk:security".

# Security Review (`atk:security`)
Produces the security record a Tech Lead can sign and a client can read: what was in scope, what was
checked and how, what was found with the evidence behind it, and what is left open with the name of
whoever accepted it. A finding without a path from an entry point to an impact is a worry, not a
finding, and the record keeps the two apart.
## Scope
Handles: resolving the scope into assets, actors, entry points, and trust boundaries; running the
project's own dependency audit and the secret scan over tracked files; walking the threats per
boundary against `references/threat-checklist.md`; verifying each candidate against the code;
answering a supplied security checklist item by item; and writing or updating the threat model of a
feature.View the complete source on GitHubspec

Write and keep current the reference documents a team reads long after the work merged: the API contract per resource, the schema per table, the behaviour of a feature, and a screen's components as its Figma design draws them. # Reference Specs (`atk:spec`)
Owns the document somebody opens to answer "what does this endpoint do today", or, in a project whose
profile says `Contract: first`, "what is this endpoint agreed to do". It carries no options, and in
the kit's own shape no history: it describes the system as it currently is or is agreed to be, which
is why a stale line in it is wrong rather than merely old, and why it is updated in place forever
instead of being superseded. `shared/spec-docs.md` holds what separates it from a design document, what changes under
`Contract: first`, and the obligation that keeps it true.
## Scope
Handles: writing and updating reference documents for API contracts, database schema, feature
behaviour, and screens, the last from a Figma design or the images exported from it; taking their shape from the documents a project already keeps; under `Contract: first`,

Use when a team keeps repeating the same correction to a skill's output, when a client or an internal standard adds a step the kit does not know about, or when an override written earlier no longer matches the skill it belongs to. # Skill Tailoring (`atk:tailor`)
Writes `.atk/overrides/<skill>.md`, the file that tells one skill what this team does differently.
The kit stays as shipped, so the next update lands cleanly and the team's own rules survive it.
Most teams reach this skill after correcting the same output three times. That correction is a rule
the team already agreed on and never wrote down, so the interview here is short: the answer usually
exists, it just lives in somebody's head.

# Verify on the Running System (`atk:verify`)
Runs the thing and looks. A green suite proves that the checks somebody wrote still pass; it does
not prove that the record was written, that the job reached the queue, or that the screen renders
what the design says. This skill closes that distance, on the real application, with the commands
the project itself uses.
It has one built-in limit. After three rounds of fix and retry it stops and hands the problem to a
person by name: a failure that survives three fixes is usually a design question in a bug's clothes.
## Scope

# Skill Evaluation (`atkx:skill-eval`)
Evaluates one skill directory, any directory holding a `SKILL.md`, whichever harness it was written
