When your agent uses it
Add Wolfram System Modeler control-panel (Explore) annotations (__Wolfram(ControlPanels(Panel(...)))) to a .mo model so it opens with interactive sliders, checkboxes, input fields and popup menus in Simulation Center's Explore view. Use this skill whenever the user wants to add a control panel or Explore panel, make a model interactive, expose parameters as sliders/controls, or let someone tune parameters and re-simulate from the GUI. Triggers on phrases like 'add a control panel', 'add an explore panel', 'make interactive sliders', 'expose these parameters as controls', 'let me tune parameters in Simulation Center', 'add controls to this model'.

# Annotate Control Panel
This skill writes the Wolfram **control-panel** (Explore) annotation into a Modelica `.mo` file so a
model carries its own interactive panels — the sliders, checkboxes, input fields and popup menus that
Simulation Center's **Explore** view shows for driving parameters and start values, plus the plots to
display:

When your agent uses it
Add Wolfram System Modeler 3D-animation annotations (__Wolfram(Animation(cameras, windows))) to a MultiBody .mo model — stored cameras (fixed or following an object), trace paths, auto-play/repeat, time scale, ground grid and force-vector scaling — so the model opens with a ready-made animation in Simulation Center. Use this skill whenever the user wants to add or store an animation, camera, camera follow mode, trace path, or animation window settings in a model, attach a CAD shape, or make a MultiBody animation presentation-ready. Triggers on phrases like 'add a camera to the model', 'store the animation', 'follow the body with the camera', 'add a trace path', 'top/side/front view', 'animate this multibody model', 'attach a CAD file', 'the animation opens empty'.

# Annotate Modelica 3D Animation
Adds `__Wolfram(Animation(...))` annotations to a MultiBody model so Simulation
Center opens a configured 3D animation: named cameras, follow cameras, trace
paths, playback behavior and vector scaling — all stored in the model file.
Only models using `Modelica.Mechanics.MultiBody` components with a visual
representation get an Animation view. Simulate first (`simulate-modelica`):
you need the trajectory extents to place cameras and size the scene, and a
model that fails to simulate has no animation to configure.
Unlike the control-panel, graphics and plots annotators, this skill has no
generator engine — you author the annotation text and splice it in by hand,
then validate. That puts the merge-into-`annotation(...)` step (below) on you;View the complete source on GitHubannotate-modelica-graphics
When your agent uses it
Add Modelica graphical annotations (Icon + Diagram) to a text-only .mo model so it renders as a clean, laid-out schematic in Wolfram System Modeler. Use this skill whenever a model has no icons or diagram, or the user asks to add graphics, draw icons, lay out the diagram, place components, or make a model look right when opened in System Modeler. Triggers on phrases like 'add an icon to this model', 'lay out the diagram', 'the model has no graphics', 'make this render in System Modeler', 'add Placement/Line annotations', 'give these components icons', 'create a schematic'.

# Annotate Modelica Graphics
This skill adds graphical annotations to a text-only Modelica `.mo` file so it renders as a
clean schematic in Wolfram System Modeler. It is a **self-contained source transform** — it
parses the `.mo`, classifies each class, and splices annotations back into the source:
- **Category classes** (packages, runnable examples, records, functions) get the idiomatic
`extends Modelica.Icons.*;` base — the same icons the Modelica Standard Library uses.
- **Leaf components / sub-circuit building blocks** get a custom `Icon(graphics=…)` with their
connectors anchored on the icon boundary. This works for **any domain** — connector detection
spans every Modelica Standard Library domain (electrical, mechanical, rotational/translational,
MultiBody, control signals, thermal/heat, fluid, magnetic, digital, …) plus any `connector`
class defined in the file itself. Recognized component kinds get a hand-drawn glyph
(transistor, amplifier, tank, pump, valve, pipe, heat capacitor); anything else gets a genericView the complete source on GitHubannotate-modelica-plots
When your agent uses it
Add standardized Modelica result-plot annotations (Documentation(figures={Figure/Plot/Curve/Axis})) to a .mo model so simulation plots are stored in the model itself and reopen in Wolfram System Modeler. Use this skill whenever the user wants to store, embed, or save result plots in a model, define which variables to plot, add a figures annotation, or mark a time or a level on a stored plot with a labelled plot marker — a peak, a settling time, a threshold, a final value. Triggers on phrases like 'store the plots in the model', 'embed result plots', 'save these curves into the .mo', 'add a figures annotation', 'which variables should be plotted by default', 'mark the peak on the plot', 'add a marker at t = 2 s', 'show the settling time', 'draw a line at the limit', 'add measurements to the plot'.

# Annotate Modelica Plots
This skill writes the **spec-standard** result-plot annotation into a Modelica `.mo` file so a
model carries its own simulation plots:
```modelica
plots = {
Plot(title = "Position and velocity",
curves = {Curve(x = time, y = s, legend = "position"),
x = Axis(label = "time"), y = Axis(label = "states", unit = ""))})}));
Create Modelica models using the Hydraulic library with knowledge-graph-guided component selection and wiring. Use this skill whenever the user asks to create, build, design, or generate a hydraulic circuit or Modelica model using the Hydraulic library. Triggers on phrases like 'create a hydraulic model', 'build a circuit with a pump and cylinder', 'design a meter-in circuit', 'make a model with a directional valve', 'generate a hydraulic system', or any request to assemble Hydraulic library components into a working model. For the overall structure of a large model or library, consult modelica-model-architecture first.
# Create Hydraulic Model (Graph RAG Guided)
This skill uses a knowledge graph of the Hydraulic Modelica library to guide the user through creating valid hydraulic circuit models. The graph (built from **Hydraulic 2.1**) contains 168 parsed components with their ports, parameters, inheritance, and 60 validated connection patterns extracted from the library's composite models and 18 example circuits.
## Before you run anything
The query commands below run `python -m Hydraulic.main …`; the optional validation step
(Step 7) additionally drives the shared launcher. For the Windows-vs-Unix shell/Python
rules (PowerShell on Windows, `python` vs `python3`) and launcher conventions, see
[the shared-conventions appendix at the end of this file](#appendix-shared-conventions-for-the-modelica-skills) — the launcher-specific parts (temp dirs,
JSON output, MSL, `--load-library`) only matter once you validate.
Diagnose Modelica models (.mo files) by generating a detailed structural and simulation report. Use this skill whenever the user asks to diagnose, analyze, profile, or debug a Modelica model's structure, equations, variables, or performance. Triggers on phrases like 'diagnose this model', 'analyze the model structure', 'show me the equation blocks', 'how many states does this model have', 'why is this model slow', 'debug this model', 'model report', or any request to understand the internals of a Modelica model. It applies equally when you reach for it mid-task — a model you wrote yourself validates but will not build, simulates far too slowly, or gives an answer you cannot account for.
# Diagnose Modelica Model
This skill generates a comprehensive diagnostic report for a Modelica model. You
run the model through the bundled launcher, then turn the artifacts it leaves
behind into a report with the bundled `report_blocks.py` / `trace_variable.py`
scripts. The report covers variable counts, equation structure, block analysis,
solver settings, and (if simulated) runtime performance.
When your agent uses it
Reduce a Modelica model that triggers a System Modeler compiler failure (an internal error, generated code that fails to compile, a simulator internal error or a kernel crash) to the smallest model that still fails the same way, and prepare a bug report for Wolfram support. Use this skill whenever the launcher prints a `=== compiler failure ===` block or reports a `compiler_failure`, or the user mentions an 'internal error', 'Fatal failure', 'the compiler crashed', 'generated code failed to compile', 'report this bug to Wolfram', 'make a minimal example' or 'reduce this model for a bug report'. It applies just as much when the failure turns up mid-task in a model you wrote yourself: a compiler failure is a fault in System Modeler, not something to work around silently.
# Minimize a Modelica Compiler Bug
A *compiler failure* is a fault in System Modeler itself rather than in the
model. Examples are an `Internal error`, generated code that does not compile,
and a simulator that stops with an internal error. This skill shrinks the
failing model to the smallest one that still fails with the same message, and
writes a short report the user can send to Wolfram support. A small
reproduction gets a bug fixed; a 5,000-line proprietary model usually does not.
Ordinary model errors are not compiler failures: type, lookup and balance errors,
failed assertions, or a solver giving up. Fix those in the model instead, using
`validate-modelica` or `diagnose-modelica`.
Architecture and structuring guidance for Wolfram System Modeler / Modelica (.mo) models and libraries. Use this skill BEFORE writing equations whenever creating, implementing, structuring, or refactoring a model or library, to decide component decomposition, connectors, component reuse, file/folder layout, units, and naming. Triggers on phrases like 'create/build a Modelica model', 'implement this model/paper in Modelica', 'make a WSM model', 'write a Modelica library', 'structure this model', 'single .mo file vs directory', 'split this into components', 'refactor this model/library'. Before writing a multi-class library, consult it to choose directory-form (one class per file) storage over a single .mo — also when the library is your own idea, such as a circuit or mechanism modelled to validate something else against it. For a specific component library (e.g. create-hydraulic-model) defer to that domain skill.
# WSM / Modelica model architecture
Use this when creating or restructuring a WSM/Modelica model or library —
**before** writing equations. This skill covers the architecture and structuring
decisions that come first (sections 1-7), then the library conventions —
naming, plots, documentation HTML, testing, icons, library shape — that a model
or library must meet before it is "done" (sections 8-9). Read sections 8-9
before declaring a library done.
The default in Modelica is **object-oriented decomposition into reusable
components**. Reach for a flat all-in-one model only under the explicit
exception in section 5.
## Working methodView the complete source on GitHubsearch-modelica-docs
When your agent uses it
Search the bundled Modelica and Wolfram System Modeler documentation for authoritative answers, then cite the source. Use this skill whenever the user asks a how-to, what-is, or why question about the Modelica language (syntax, semantics, equations, arrays, connectors, annotations, the specification), about Wolfram System Modeler (building/simulating models, the GUI, tutorials, release notes), or about the Modelica Standard Library (which component to use, its parameter names and defaults, example models). Triggers on phrases like 'how do I write a when statement', 'what does the Modelica spec say about ...', 'how do I simulate this in System Modeler', 'is this valid Modelica', 'which MSL block does ...', 'what are the parameters of Modelica.X.Y', 'find an example model that ...'. Also use it while writing a model that uses MSL components, to ground parameter names and wiring instead of recalling them. Prefer it over answering from memory.
# Search Modelica & System Modeler Documentation (BM25)
A self-contained, **offline** documentation search. It ranks passages with BM25
(pure Python standard library — **no third-party packages, no network, no API**)
over three prebuilt corpora and returns the matching chunks with their citation
URLs. Use it to ground answers in real documentation instead of recalling from
memory.
Answering the question is often not the whole job: once the answer points at a
model, the rest of the System Modeler toolkit is available — `validate-modelica`
to check one compiles, `simulate-modelica` to run it, `diagnose-modelica` when it
will not build or is unaccountably slow, `modelica-model-architecture` before
writing one, and the `annotate-*` skills for icons, diagrams and stored plots.
Simulate a Modelica model and plot the results — reads the simulated .mat with DyMat and plots chosen variables over time. Use this skill whenever the user asks to simulate and plot a model, plot simulation results, plot or graph specific variables over time, or visualize a model's time-domain behavior. Triggers on phrases like 'simulate and plot', 'plot the results', 'plot these variables', 'graph the output', 'show me the trajectories', or any request to visualize simulation output. Prefer this over simulate-modelica whenever the request involves plotting or visualizing results. For analysis beyond plotting — checking limits/requirements, violations, parameter sweeps, Monte Carlo, calibration — prefer the wolfram-language-modelica skill when Wolfram Language is available; use this skill's Python path when it is not.
# Simulate and Plot
This skill simulates a Modelica model and plots the results: it runs the
simulation to produce a `.mat`, then reads chosen variables from it with DyMat
and plots them over time. No reference data is needed.
**Scope check before starting:** if the request goes beyond plotting —
verifying limits or requirements, finding violations, parameter sweeps, Monte
Carlo, fitting/calibration — and Wolfram Language is available (e.g. a Wolfram
MCP tool or `wolframscript`), hand the task to the `wolfram-language-modelica`
skill instead: the built-in `SystemModel*` functions do that analysis natively.
Use this skill's Python analysis path only when Wolfram Language is not
available.
Simulate Modelica models (.mo files) with WSMKernelX — compiles to C++, builds, and runs the simulation (no plotting; to plot the results too, use simulate-and-plot-modelica). Use this skill whenever the user asks to simulate a Modelica model, run a simulation, or get simulation results or time-domain behavior. Triggers on phrases like 'simulate this model', 'run the simulation', 'get simulation results'. Use it also when running a model is a step in a larger job you took on yourself — verifying a port, a datasheet claim or a hand-written implementation against a model built for the purpose — even if the request never mentioned Modelica. If the request also involves analysis — limits/requirements, violations, parameter sweeps, Monte Carlo, calibration — prefer wolfram-language-modelica when Wolfram Language is available.
Run a compiled Modelica model as a live, real-time simulation server and interact with it over the System Modeler simulation TCP interface: start, pause, resume and stop it, set inputs and tunable parameters while it runs, read and stream values, or send raw protocol commands, on an executable it launches or one already running in Simulation Center. Use it whenever a simulation must run in real time or as a server, take input or parameter changes mid-run, be driven from Python or another program, or feed an operator, hardware-in-the-loop or live-dashboard demo. Triggers on phrases like 'run in real time', 'simulate in server mode', 'connect to the running simulation', 'change the input while it runs', 'stream simulation values', 'hardware in the loop', 'simulation server', 'TCP interface of the simulation'. For one-shot simulations use simulate-modelica; for live interaction from Wolfram Language use wolfram-language-modelica.
# Talk to a simulation executable
Every simulation System Modeler builds is an executable plus a `.sim` settings file, and every
running simulation has a built-in TCP server. A client can start, pause, resume and stop the run,
set top-level inputs at any time, set tunable parameters while the solver runs, read any variable,
and subscribe to variables that are then streamed while it runs. This skill does that with the
stdlib-only client `<scripts-dir>/wsmsim.py` and its command line `<scripts-dir>/wsm_realtime.py`.
Resolve `<scripts-dir>` as in [Appendix → Locating the launcher](#locating-the-launcher),
and follow its shell and Python rules per OS.
Validate Modelica models (.mo files) by flattening them with WSMKernelX. It applies just as much when Modelica is a means to another end and you chose it yourself — modelling a circuit, mechanism or process to check some other implementation against it — and neither Modelica nor System Modeler was ever named in the request.
Simulate and analyze Modelica models from Wolfram Language / a notebook (WSM SystemModel* functions, WSMRealTimeSimulate) — extract numerical results and make custom plots. Use this skill whenever the user wants to work with a Modelica model inside WL — parameter sweeps, time series in Wolfram arrays (AnomalyDetection, Predict, SystemModelCalibrate), validating against requirements (SystemModelValidate, Monte Carlo, uncertainty bands), training surrogates, custom plots, or driving a live simulation from a notebook. Triggers on phrases like 'simulate this model in WL', 'get the results into Wolfram Language', 'SystemModelSimulate', 'SystemModelPlot', 'sweep a parameter', 'validate against requirements', 'stays within limits', 'show me any violations', 'uncertainty plot', 'train a surrogate', 'real-time simulation in a notebook', 'WSMRealTimeSimulate'. # System Modeling with Wolfram Language
This skill covers how to drive Modelica simulation from Wolfram Language using the built-in `SystemModel*` family. Use this when the downstream work lives in WL, for example, analysis of simulated data, calibration, optimization, surrogates, custom plots.
For pure command-line simulation / validation with no WL work afterward, prefer the `simulate-modelica` or `validate-modelica` skills — they are faster because they avoid kernel startup and WL context.
