# Animation - step-based explainer diagrams
`.anim.json` files open in Nimbalyst's Animation editor: a named scene plus an ordered list of steps that assign states to the scene's parts. You write plain JSON. Any agent can author or edit one with `Write` and `Edit` -- there is no binary format and no tool call required.
## When to use this
- Explaining how a system behaves **over time**: a request crossing a network, a consensus round, a cache filling, a build pipeline, a queue draining.
- Turning a static architecture diagram into something that plays.
- Showing a failure and a recovery: the retry, the rollback, the rejected review.
**Do not use it** when a static diagram says the same thing. If nothing changes between the first frame and the last, you want Excalidraw or a Mermaid block, not an animation.
## The mental model

Author Nimbalyst Project Canvas boards (.canvas files) — an infinite canvas whose cards are live editors for real workspace files and shared documents, arranged spatially and wired with edges. Use when the user asks for a canvas, a board, a spatial layout of documents or mockups, a flow of screens, or a workspace overview.

# Project Canvas
A `.canvas` file is a board: an infinite canvas whose cards can be sticky notes, text, images, frames, or **live editors mounted on real workspace files and shared documents**. A mockup card renders the mockup. A spreadsheet card renders the grid. A mindmap card renders the mindmap.
The editor is built into Nimbalyst, so any workspace can open a `.canvas` file you write. Write the JSON directly with the Write tool; there is no MCP tool for boards.
## When to use a canvas
- Laying out several existing files spatially — screens of a flow, docs in a workstream, a review board
- A workspace or project overview that mixes documents, mockups, data, and notes
- Anything where the point is the *arrangement* of real artifacts, not a drawing
Use Excalidraw for freeform drawings and architecture sketches. Use MockupLM for a single UI screen. A canvas is the thing that holds several of those at once.

This skill is for the "Commit with AI" feature which provides an interactive commit proposal widget.
**IMPORTANT: Only use this when:**
- The user clicks the "Commit with AI" button (you'll see a message asking you to use developer_git_commit_proposal)
- The user explicitly asks for "smart commit" or "commit with AI"
**Do NOT use this for:**
- Generic commit requests like "commit this", "commit the changes", "make a commit"
- For those, use standard git commands: `git add` and `git commit`

# Excalidraw Diagrams
Excalidraw is Nimbalyst's whiteboard-style diagram editor for creating flowcharts, architecture diagrams, system diagrams, and visual sketches.
## STOP AFTER ONE PASS — Do Not Thrash
The single biggest failure mode with this skill is agents creating a diagram, capturing a screenshot, noticing minor cosmetic imperfections, then clearing and rebuilding the diagram two, three, or four times without being asked. This is the wrong behavior. The user sees every rebuild, and iterations the user did not ask for are a waste of their time and attention.
Follow these rules:
1. **One-shot by default.** Build the diagram, capture a screenshot once, describe what you made, and stop. Do not iterate on visual polish unless the user explicitly asks for a change.
2. **Never use `excalidraw.clear_all` followed by a rebuild as a way to "redo" the diagram.** `clear_all` is only for user-requested rebuilds. If you just produced a diagram, looked at it, and feel like starting over, don't — stop and hand control back to the user.
3. **Minor imperfections are fine.** Excalidraw is a whiteboard / hand-drawn-style tool. Slight overlaps, arrows that route imperfectly, labels that aren't perfectly centered, and asymmetric spacing are all acceptable and expected. Do not rebuild to fix these. Do not re-run `import_mermaid` because the auto-layout isn't pixel-perfect.
4. **Only one screenshot per diagram.** Capture once to verify the diagram exists and is roughly what you intended, then stop screenshotting. Repeated screenshots drive perfectionism loops.View the complete source on GitHubextension-development

# Extension Development in Nimbalyst
Nimbalyst provides MCP tools for building, installing, and hot-reloading extensions directly from within the running app. This enables rapid iteration on extension development without manually running build commands.
The recommended in-app scaffold flow uses `File > New Extension Project`, `Developer > New Extension Project`, or the Extension Developer Kit's `/new-extension` command. Enable Extension Dev Tools in Settings > Advanced before using the build/install workflow.
## Available MCP Tools
### Build Extension
```
mcp__nimbalyst-extension-dev__extension_build
```
Runs the project's `build` script (usually vite build) with pnpm if the project uses pnpm, npm otherwise.

# Wiki setup
Leave the person with a wiki they can read and navigate: a populated Home, useful starter pages, and a writing guide. Types and relations are optional; defining them alone is not setup. For a request limited to checking setup or adding a type or relation, do only that work.
Check what exists first. Create missing pages, fill empty bodies, and add missing context or links with small edits that preserve existing prose. Never delete, rename, archive, or replace a person's content without their approval. Re-running setup must not duplicate pages, sections, or links.
The base guide is `references/wiki-guide.md` next to this file. Example relations are in `../update/references/relations.yaml`.
## 0. Which section
If the workspace is shared with a team, set up the Team section of the Wiki and define types with `sharing: team` so teammates see them. Otherwise use the Personal section and `sharing: personal`. Every wiki tool takes the matching `section` (`team` or `personal`).

# Update the wiki
## First: read the guide and Home
Before writing, read the page titled "How we write this wiki" (Team section of the Wiki, or Personal when there is no team) and the section's Home page, and follow them. The guide overrides the writing advice below wherever they disagree.
Find them with `listPages` (`section: team` or `personal`): it returns every page with its `uri`, which you read with `readCollabDoc`. If the project has no guide page, follow `../setup/references/wiki-guide.md` and tell the person the setup skill (`/wiki:setup`) can install it as an editable page.
Before creating a page, search for an existing one with `searchPages` (`query`, optional `section`); extend or link to what it finds instead of adding a second page about the same thing.

## Team wiki or local wiki
This plugin reaches two wikis: the team project's pages (`nimbalyst-team`) and the project's local wiki of files (`nimbalyst-local`). The `connect` skill decides which one this session uses. On a local wiki, skip the team-project steps below and follow "On a local wiki" at the end of this skill.
<!-- /local-only -->
<!-- remote-only -->
## First: which team project
You are working from a terminal, against the team's pages on the Nimbalyst server. Before the first wiki call of the session, follow the `connect` skill: call `pages_status` with `repo` (the output of `git remote get-url origin`) and, when `.nimbalyst/wiki.json` pins one, `project: { orgId, projectId }`, and pass the same two arguments on every tool below. Work only when the state is `bound`. Only team pages are reachable through `nimbalyst-team`; Personal pages live in the desktop app.

# MockupLM - Visual Planning
MockupLM is Nimbalyst's visual mockup system for UI/UX design and planning. Create `.mockup.html` files with HTML and inline CSS to share and iterate on designs with users.
## When to Use MockupLM
- Planning new UI features or screens
- Designing layouts and visual hierarchy
- Creating wireframes or prototypes
- Visualizing proposed changes to existing screens
- Any situation where visual communication helps
**Do NOT use for implementation** - MockupLM is for planning only. If you're implementing actual code, don't create mockup files.

Record what this session decided in the project's wiki. Load the `update` skill and follow it for every write; the `connect` skill covers choosing the wiki and finding the project.
Focus, if the user gave one: $ARGUMENTS (left as written or empty means the whole session)
1. If the desktop app's wiki tools are available (`mcp__nimbalyst-trackers__*`), use them and the desktop wiki skills instead of this plugin's tools.
2. Choose the wiki as the `connect` skill describes. For the team wiki, call `pages_status` with `repo` and `project`; if the state is `ambiguous`, ask which project and pin it; if it is `unbound`, follow the skill's connecting steps. For a local wiki, use the `nimbalyst-local` tools; if there is none yet, offer to start one. If there is still no wiki to write to, say so and stop.
3. Read the guide page ("How we write this wiki": `guideLink` on the team wiki, `listPages` on a local one) and follow it.
4. On a local wiki, start from the code: call `pagesForFiles` with the files this session changed (no arguments checks the working tree; when the work is already committed, pass the files, or `since` with the commit before it). For each page it returns, read it and either update it with what the change means for a reader, or, when you cannot say that well, set its `status` to `outdated` (`setPageFields`, or `tracker_update` on a typed page) and add one line saying what changed and where. `stale` means a covered file was committed after the page last changed, which may include commits from before this session; record what this session changed and say the page may lag further rather than guessing at older changes. Skip a page the change does not affect in meaning.
5. List the candidates from this session: decisions people made (who, what was not chosen, and why), questions answered or left open, and context a teammate would need to see the whole problem. Drop routine progress and anything the code or `git log` already says.
6. If nothing is left and no page needed updating, reply "nothing to record" and stop.
7. Otherwise, find the page each candidate affects with `listPages` and `readCollabDoc`, and write it there as the skill says: a decided or open mark on the sentence, a citation from `list_session_inputs` when the person's own words support it. Extend existing pages; create a page only when none fits. When the project came from a pin or the user is in several teams, first say which project the writes go to; on a local wiki, say which folder.
8. End your reply with the pages you updated or marked outdated, one link per line.View the complete source on GitHubconnect
When your agent uses it
Choose which wiki this session uses, the team project's pages on the Nimbalyst server or the project's local wiki of files, and connect a repository to its team project. Use at the start of a task before any wiki tool, when a wiki tool returns repo_not_bound, ambiguous_project, pin_mismatch, project_not_accessible, admin_required or "No local wiki", or when the user asks to connect a repository or start a wiki. How to write pages is in the update skill.

# Connect to the wiki
This skill only decides which wiki the session uses and, for a team wiki, connects the repository to its project. What to write, and how, is in the `update` skill; types and the guide page are in `setup`.
## Nimbalyst desktop comes first
If the desktop app's wiki tools are available (`mcp__nimbalyst-trackers__*`, or `listPages` from a server whose name contains neither `nimbalyst-team` nor `nimbalyst-local`), you are running inside Nimbalyst, which already reaches the same pages, team and local. Use those tools and do not call this plugin's tools in this session: two write paths into the same pages produce duplicates.
## Two wikis, two servers
This plugin has two wiki servers with the same tool names (`listPages`, `readCollabDoc`, `applyCollabDocEdit`, `createSharedDoc` and the rest):
- **`nimbalyst-team`**: the team project's pages on the Nimbalyst server. It comes in the `nimbalyst-wiki-team` add-on plugin, which the `team` skill installs. Needs a Nimbalyst sign-in and a repository connected to a team project. Every call takes `repo` and, when pinned, `project`.
- **`nimbalyst-local`**: the project's local wiki, a folder of markdown files in the repository (default `nimbalyst-local/wiki`, kept out of git; or a checked-in folder such as `docs/wiki`). No account, no `repo` or `project` arguments. `initLocalWiki` creates it. The Nimbalyst app, `nim` and any editor read the same files.View the complete source on GitHubrecall

Find what the project's wiki already says before answering or changing code. This skill only reads; the `capture` and `update` skills write.
Question or area: $ARGUMENTS (empty means the area of the work at hand)
1. Choose the wiki exactly as the `connect` skill says, in its order: the desktop app's wiki tools when they are available (then use them, not this plugin's), a local wiki whose `.nimbalyst/local-wiki.json` has `migratedTo` (it moved to that team project; its local files are an archive), a `.nimbalyst/wiki.json` pin, and only then the local wiki. `listMarks` and `pagesForFiles` exist only on the `nimbalyst-local` server; on the team wiki or the desktop tools use `searchPages` and `readCollabDoc` for steps 2 to 4. Never answer from a moved wiki's local archive as if it were current; if a local result carries a `movedToTeam` note, switch to the team wiki or say the answer comes from the archive. If there is no wiki at all, say so in one line and stop; do not offer to create one unless the user asks.
2. Decisions and open questions: call `listMarks` with `query` set to two or three key words from the question. Add `kind: "decided"` for "what did we decide" and "why did we", `kind: "open"` for "what is still open", and `by` when the user names a person. With nothing found, try other words once before giving up.
3. Pages: call `searchPages` for the area. When the work is about to change code, call `pagesForFiles` with those files (no arguments checks the working tree) and treat its pages as required reading.
4. Read the few pages that answer it best with `readCollabDoc`, about five at most. A mark's reasoning is in the sentences around it, so read the page, not only the mark.
5. Answer from what you read: each decision with who made it, when, and what it was chosen over; each open question with its owner. Name every page you used with its path in the wiki folder. Say when a page is `stale` (from `pagesForFiles`) or has `status: outdated`, and keep what the wiki says apart from what you infer.
6. If the wiki has nothing on the question, say that plainly in one line and answer from the code or the conversation, labelled as such. If the user then decides something, the `capture` skill records it.View the complete source on GitHubsetup

Give a short tour of Nimbalyst Wiki and point at the next step. Do not write any pages in this skill.
Say, in a few lines:
1. Nimbalyst Wiki is a local wiki your agents write for you, so you can think, organize, and set direction.
2. Best first step: `/nimbalyst-wiki:setup`. The agent builds the first wiki from this repository: Home, a writing guide, and starter pages.
3. The habit: at the end of a session, `/nimbalyst-wiki:capture` records what was decided in the page it affects.
4. Before working in an area, `/nimbalyst-wiki:recall` (or asking "what did we decide about X?") answers from the wiki's pages and decisions.
5. Growth paths: typed pages and tables to track things; reading and editing the wiki in the browser (ask "open the wiki in my browser"; the agent calls `openWikiInBrowser`, nothing to install); and optionally connecting a Nimbalyst Team wiki later (`/nimbalyst-wiki:connect`). A local wiki can be moved to Nimbalyst Teams later in one step with `/nimbalyst-wiki:team`, which also invites teammates; they need nothing installed to read it in the browser.
If the user gave a goal, tailor the next step to it. Check whether a local wiki already exists in this repository; if it does, suggest `capture` or asking a question about it instead of `setup`.
Mention the team add-on and its sign-in (the `team` skill installs `nimbalyst-wiki-team`) only if the user chooses the team wiki. The local wiki needs no account. Do not say the install runs onboarding by itself; it does not. The README has the full guide.View the complete source on GitHubteam

# Move the wiki to Nimbalyst Teams
Walk the user through these steps in order. Each step says what to call and what to tell the user. The `connect` skill covers choosing a wiki and the `repo` and `project` arguments; this skill uses them the same way.
If the desktop app's wiki tools are available (`mcp__nimbalyst-trackers__*`), stop: the Nimbalyst app moves pages to a team itself (Move to Team in the page menu). Say so and do not use this plugin's tools.
## 1. Check what there is to move
Call `listPages` on `nimbalyst-local`.
- **Pages come back**: there is a local wiki to move. Note roughly how many pages it has.
- **"No local wiki"**: there is nothing to move. Say so, and continue from step 2 only if the user still wants a team wiki; skip steps 5 and 6.
- If `.nimbalyst/local-wiki.json` already has `migratedTo`, the wiki was already moved. Say so, and do steps 3 and 4 with `project` set to the `orgId` and `projectId` it names (`pages_status` returns its `homeLink`), then skip to step 7 (open it) and step 8 (invites).
