# DamnPDFs file tools
Use the bundled DamnPDFs MCP tools with the user's selected files. The service is at https://damnpdfs.com/. Read [connection and processing details](references/connection.md) when connecting, recovering a session or choosing a processing location.
## Connect the intended workspace
Check `connection_status` first. When disconnected, open DamnPDFs in an available browser, choose **Agent access**, and create a pairing code in an otherwise empty workspace. Use `connect_browser` with that code. The code is single use and expires after five minutes. The bridge keeps the resulting credential in process memory and does not return it in tool results. Do not ask for the user's OpenAI key, API account verification, browser cookies or account password.
If browser control is available, obtain the code directly from the user-approved DamnPDFs tab. Otherwise ask the user to open Agent access and supply only that temporary pairing code. A code does not authorize work on unrelated documents already in the workspace: inspect the workspace and select only the intended handles. Keep the paired tab open. Never promise background operation after the browser closes or automatically revive revoked access.
## Select and run the task
- Use `workspace_inspect` to obtain actual file and result handles. Use an exact file path supplied or approved by the user with `import_local_file`, or upload the selected file through the website. Local bridge imports upload the selected bytes to DamnPDFs temporary cloud storage before importing them into the paired browser; disclose that when it affects the user's privacy choice. Do not search the device for files or upload unrelated files.
- Choose the individual named tool from the installed MCP catalog. Its schema defines accepted handles and settings; do not guess unsupported options. Related examples include `compress_pdf`, `edit_pdf_text`, `sign_pdf`, `word_to_pdf`, `pptx_to_pdf`, `compress_image` and `remove_background`. Read [task guidance](references/tasks.md) for editing, signing, compression and conversions.
