# Guard the context window
Bulk content does not belong in the main agent's context. Delegate big reads and big outputs to subagents, and retain only what they summarize plus the decisions you make.
## When it applies
Large command outputs, long files, repeated reads of the same material, and planning any fan-out. Skip it for small, targeted reads where writing a brief would cost more than the content.
## Why it holds
The main context is finite. As it fills, reasoning quality drops, and when the agent compacts history to make room it loses detail, sometimes including the user's instructions. A full window can also halt the run.
