**IMPORTANT**: Credentials are injected automatically by a proxy layer. Do NOT check for `PAGERDUTY_API_KEY` in environment variables - it won't be visible to you. Just run the scripts directly; authentication is handled transparently.

## Why Alerting Context Matters
Before diving into logs and metrics, understand:
- **Has this happened before?** Check similar past incidents
- **Who's responding?** Know who's on-call and assigned
- **What else is alerting?** Correlated alerts reveal scopeView the complete source on GitHubalerting-opsgenie

# Kubernetes Debugging
## Core Principle: Events Before Logs
**ALWAYS check pod events BEFORE logs.** Events explain 80% of issues faster:
- OOMKilled -> Memory limit exceeded
- ImagePullBackOff -> Image not found or auth issue
- FailedScheduling -> No nodes with enough resources
- CrashLoopBackOff -> Container crashing repeatedly
## Access Mode
**Default: skip cluster discovery, go straight to direct mode.** Do not run

# infrastructure-neo4j
Query the OpenSRE knowledge graph (Neo4j) for service topology, dependencies, and blast radius.
## When to use
Use **after** you know which service or deployment is affected:
- Alert or ticket names a service (checkout, payments, surveys build target)
- Logs or metrics identify a failing deployment
- You need blast radius — what depends on this service, what it depends on
**Do not** query on vague tickets alone (e.g. "build pipeline failing" with no service). Gather evidence first, then query with the service name.

# 5-Phase Investigation Methodology
You are an expert SRE investigator. Follow this systematic approach for all incident investigations.
## Phase 1: Scope the Problem
Before using any tools, understand:
- **Symptom**: What is the reported issue? (errors, latency, downtime)
- **Timeline**: When did it start? Is it ongoing or resolved?
- **Impact**: Users affected, SLO breach, revenue impact?
- **Changes**: Recent deployments, config changes, traffic patterns?
- **Services**: Which systems are likely involved?

## Why Confluence Matters During Incidents

Search OpenSRE memory for past investigations similar to what you are seeing now.
## When to use
Use memory search **after** you have concrete evidence—not on vague initial alerts alone:
- You have an error message, stack trace, or failing job output
- You identified a failing component or service
- A symptom may have been investigated before and you want prior root causes or skills that worked
**Do not** search on ticket titles alone (e.g. "build pipeline failing"). Gather facts first (read Jenkins console, check logs), then search with an enriched query.

## Core Principle: Statistics Before Samples
**NEVER start by reading raw logs.** Always begin with aggregated statistics:

# Skill: Argo CD (Portable)
Use this skill for Argo CD CLI work. Single-instance generic — the target instance is controlled by `ARGOCD_SERVER` (required in direct/local mode; no baked-in default hostname). Guardrails are **app-name-based**, not instance-based: a prod app regex-matched as such gets restricted treatment regardless of which server it lives on.
## Authentication
**IMPORTANT**: In proxy/production mode, credentials may be injected automatically.
Do not assume `ARGOCD_PASSWORD` is visible — run `argocd account get-user-info` first.
In **direct/local mode**, set in repo root `.env` (passed to the sre-agent container via docker-compose `env_file`). The `argocd` CLI reads `ARGOCD_*` from the environment — no secondary env files.
- `ARGOCD_SERVER` (required — e.g. `argocd.example.com`)

2. **Confirm before executing** - Show what will happen, ask for confirmation
3. **Document the action** - Log what was done and why
4. **Have a rollback plan** - Know how to undo the action

# Feature Flag Management (flagd)
## How It Works
The OpenTelemetry Demo uses [flagd](https://flagd.dev/) as its feature flag provider. Flags are stored in a Kubernetes ConfigMap and loaded by the flagd service. Services check flags at runtime via the OpenFeature SDK to decide whether to inject failures.
**Flag lifecycle:**
1. Flag definitions live in a ConfigMap (`flagd-config` in `otel-demo` namespace)
2. flagd watches the ConfigMap and hot-reloads on changes
3. Services evaluate flags via gRPC and behave accordingly
4. To remediate an incident, set the flag's default variant to `off`

# Kafka Streaming
## Authentication
**IMPORTANT**: Credentials are injected automatically by a proxy layer. Do NOT check for `KAFKA_SASL_PASSWORD` in environment variables - it won't be visible to you. Just run the scripts directly; authentication is handled transparently.
Configuration environment variables you CAN check (non-secret):
- `KAFKA_BOOTSTRAP_SERVERS` - Kafka broker addresses
- `KAFKA_SECURITY_PROTOCOL` - Security protocol (PLAINTEXT, SSL, SASL_SSL, SASL_PLAINTEXT)

## Authentication
**IMPORTANT**: In proxy/production mode, credentials may be injected automatically.
Do not assume `BKT_TOKEN` is visible in the shell — run the smoke test below before mutating commands.
In **direct/local mode**, OpenSRE uses **environment-variable auth** (no `bkt auth login` required). Set in repo root `.env` (passed to the sre-agent container via docker-compose):
| Variable | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `BKT_TOKEN` | Yes | Atlassian API token (Cloud) or PAT (Data Center). Bypasses OS keychain. |
| `BKT_HOST` | Yes | `https://bitbucket.org` (Cloud) or `https://bitbucket.example.com` (DC) |
| `BKT_USERNAME` | Cloud: yes | Atlassian account **email** (Cloud API tokens). DC: PAT owner username. |
| `BKT_WORKSPACE` | Cloud: recommended | Default workspace slug (e.g. `your-workspace`) |
| `BKT_PROJECT` | DC: recommended | Default project key |View the complete source on GitHubvcs-github

## Authentication
**IMPORTANT**: In proxy/production mode, credentials may be injected automatically.
Do not assume `GITHUB_TOKEN` is visible in the shell — run the smoke test below before mutating commands.
In **direct/local mode**, OpenSRE uses **environment-variable auth** (no `gh auth login` required). Set in repo root `.env` (passed to the sre-agent container via docker-compose):
| Variable | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `GITHUB_TOKEN` | Yes (or `GH_TOKEN`) | GitHub personal access token (classic or fine-grained). `gh` accepts either name; `GITHUB_TOKEN` is the OpenSRE convention. |
| `GITHUB_REPOSITORY` | No | Default `owner/repo` when commands omit `-R` / `--repo` (alias: `GH_REPO`) |
| `GH_HOST` | Enterprise only | GitHub Enterprise hostname (e.g. `github.example.com`). Use with `GITHUB_ENTERPRISE_TOKEN` or `GH_ENTERPRISE_TOKEN`. |
The default repository comes from `GITHUB_REPOSITORY` in the repo root `.env`, which is passed into the sre-agent container via docker-compose `env_file`. Omit `-R owner/repo` on commands when that default is set. Do not hardcode org or repo names in command examples.View the complete source on GitHubvcs-gitlab
