ape-cli-terminal-experience
When your agent uses it
Designs the terminal experience of a CLI app the way Claude Code does it -- palette, status glyphs, spinners, progress narration, prompts, confirmations, listings, key hints, and full-screen TUI views. Trigger on "ape cli terminal experience", or whenever the task involves printing to a terminal from a CLI: adding or restyling output, adding a spinner or progress indicator, writing a prompt or confirmation, building a TUI, choosing exit codes, or deciding stdout vs stderr. Also trigger on casual phrasings like "make the output nicer", "add colour", "this CLI looks ugly". Read this before writing the first line of output code.

# CLI Terminal Experience
A terminal UI that reads like Claude Code: mostly grey, a few deliberate accents, one
line per fact, animation only while something is actually happening, and a plain-text
fallback the moment the output stops being a terminal.
Every rule below is enforceable and testable. Follow them exactly rather than
approximating the vibe.

# `ape-design`: Editorial Systems Design Skill (Array UI)
This skill enforces strict adherence to **Array UI (`array-ui`)**—the editorial, systems-engineering design system inspired by [arpitbhayani.me](https://arpitbhayani.me) and distributed at [ui.arpitbhayani.me](https://ui.arpitbhayani.me).
When building or modifying any website (personal portfolio, engineering blog, SaaS dashboard, technical documentation, or systems explainer), the agent **MUST** follow this workflow and rules without requiring prompt corrections.
---
## 1. The 6 Non-Negotiable Prime Invariants
### Invariant 1: Mandatory Font Enforcement (DO THIS FIRST)
> [!IMPORTANT]
> **Before creating or editing any components, the agent MUST verify that Google Fonts are loaded and applied to `body`.**
> If fonts are missing, the UI will fall back to system sans-serif (Arial/Inter), completely breaking the editorial authority.View the complete source on GitHubarray-ui-review
When your agent uses it
Review UI code or a running page against the Array UI (array-ui) editorial systems rules (0% custom CSS, hairline borders, Assistant typography, signature crimson, tooltip wrapping, and arpitbhayani.me footer aesthetic) and report what breaks them with file and line. Use when the user asks to review, audit, check, or polish UI built with Array UI or @aui components. Pairs with the array-ui skill.

Do not restyle code while auditing; list every violation with file and line number, state the invariant it violates, and provide a one-line fix.

# Present Skill
Takes a blog post and produces one self-contained HTML file designed for intuitive learning: a clean header, short crisp bullet points, and visual-first explanations. Diagrams take center stage, featuring custom animations that visually demonstrate the underlying mechanics, followed by numbers set large and wire layouts or pseudocode where relevant.
It is a document, not a deck. No full-screen hero sections, no scroll-snapping, and no slide feel. Single file, comfortable reading width (`--measure`), full theme support, and a fixed section skeleton -- illustration, context, body, sources -- so every document has a coherent shape.
It is not the blog either. The post merely recorded or explained; this document **teaches**. Write it as an expert engineer explaining the concept to a sharp peer:
- **Visuals carry the heavy lifting**: Every idea is anchored by a diagram, custom animation, code snippet, or layout.
- **Short, crisp bullet points**: No verbose paragraphs or walls of text. Use punchy, high-signal bullets that explain the invariant, the causal steps, and the trade-off.
- **Custom animations**: You are free and encouraged to design custom SVG/CSS animations tailored directly to what the concept needs to make the mechanism click.
- **Natural, causal flow**: Ideas progress logically, where each section resolves a constraint or trade-off raised by the previous one.
Audience: practicing engineers. Ground explanations in first principles and systems realities (disk seeks, memory hierarchies, network hops).

# Quiz Me Skill
Tests whether you understood, not whether you can recall. You share content you claim to have read; the ape reads it, builds questions off its spine, and asks them one at a time. Wrong answers get hints that narrow the search but never contain the answer. At the end you get an honest verdict: which parts you understood, which you recited, and which you missed -- with pointers back into the source for everything you should reread.
This is the sibling of [[ape-help-me-understand]]. That skill hands you understanding; this one checks whether it took hold. The two failure modes it exists to catch: reciting (you can repeat the words but cannot answer "why" or handle a changed condition) and skimming confidence (you feel done because you reached the end).
The ape never states an answer. Not during the quiz, not in a hint, not in the verdict. For anything missed, it names where in the source the answer lives and sends you back. The source teaches; the ape only points.
## What to Test
Questions come from the parts of the content that carry meaning -- the same things a good summary must preserve. Every quiz draws from these types:
- **Mechanism**: why the thing works, one causal step at a time. "What makes the read faster?" is answerable by recitation; "what would slow down if the lookup moved back onto the request path?" is not.
- **Caveat**: the condition under which the central claim stops being true. If the source says X holds only when Y, there is a question about Y.View the complete source on GitHubape-style-markdown

Apply consistent, professional Markdown formatting rules whenever producing or reformatting Markdown output. Use this skill when generating any Markdown document, when the user asks to reformat or clean up existing Markdown, when producing README files, technical docs, notes, or any other content that will be rendered as Markdown. Trigger even when the request seems simple -- any Markdown output should follow these rules. Do not use this skill for non-Markdown outputs such as plain text, HTML, or code-only responses.

# Markdown Style Guide
Apply these rules to every piece of Markdown you produce or reformat.
## Core Principles
- Write for a senior engineering audience: clean, precise, no fluff.
- Formatting exists to aid comprehension, not to decorate.
- When in doubt, use less formatting.
## Line Width
Never hard-wrap lines at a fixed column width. Every prose line -- paragraphs, list items, block quotes, table cells -- must be a single unbroken line. Let the renderer handle wrapping. This applies everywhere in the document without exception: do not wrap at 80, 100, 120, or any other column limit.

Writes a polished, standard two-column research paper (LaTeX to PDF) from any source material -- code, docs, experiment logs, benchmark files, notes -- optimising for correctness, readability, structure, figures, tables and references. Audits every claim against evidence before writing, reports losses honestly, and renders pages to check them. # Write Paper Skill
Turns a pile of source material (repo, docs, experiment logs, result JSONs, notes) into a conference-style paper and a compiled PDF. The goal is a paper a skeptical reviewer can follow in one pass and check number by number.
Priorities, in order: **correct, then clear, then polished.** A beautiful paper with one invented number is worse than a plain one with none.
## Workflow
Run these phases in order. Do not start writing prose before phase 2 is done.
### 1. Gather and obey constraints
- Read every project instruction file first (`AGENTS.md`, `CLAUDE.md`, venue notes). Typical rules: target conference, approved title, author identity, layout, forbidden claims, which results may appear. They override this skill.
- **Venue template check**: If a specific conference or journal is targeted (e.g., ACM SIGMOD/VLDB requires `acmart`; IEEE requires `IEEEtran`; NeurIPS/ICML/ACL require their `.sty` packages), use the official conference documentclass and native metadata commands (`\begin{CCSXML}`, `\keywords`, `\author{...}\affiliation{...}`) rather than the standalone title block from `reference/preamble.tex`. See `reference/snippets.md` for the ACM `acmart` skeleton.View the complete source on GitHubape-write-pseudocode

# Pseudocode Style Guide
## Structure of a Function
Every pseudocode function has exactly three parts: input, output, and body. Use Python-like syntax: `def` for the function signature, a docstring-style comment block for input and output, and indented body lines.
```
def function_name(param1, param2, ...):
# input: <what each param represents>
# output: <what the function returns or produces>
<body>
```
